What is PCI DSS?

In short

PCI DSS is the card-payment security standard, and a vendor listing it has controls in place for handling card data.

PCI DSS is the shared security standard for anyone that stores, processes or transmits payment card details. A vendor listing it has documented controls, from encryption to access rules, and is assessed against them. For you as a customer it signals that card data is handled under a published rulebook rather than casually.

It appears widely in this group. Acronis and Acronis Cyber Protect list it inside a much wider compliance range, ISO/IEC 27000 series, ISO 9001 and SOC 2. Cloaked and Cloaked, Inc. publish SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, PCI DSS v4.0.1. Delinea Secret Server also lists it, next to its published audit reports and penetration test results.
