What is Legal entity?

In short

The legal entity is the registered company that stands behind a product, and it is the name to read in the terms.

A legal entity is the registered company that a product's terms and privacy notices belong to, taken from the imprint or a company register. It matters because a contract is with that company, not with the product's trading name, and it tells a reader which rules and regulators can apply. The five names here are distinct: 12VPN belongs to Wanwire Management Corp., 1Password to AgileBits Inc., 21Vianet to Beijing VNET Broadband Data Center Co., Ltd., 2FAS to Two Factor Authentication Service, Inc., and Abine, Inc. under its own name. If a provider hides the registered name behind a brand, you have less to check when something goes wrong.
