What is Privacy tool type?

In short

Privacy tool type is the label that sorts a product by what it actually does, such as blocking ads or running a private DNS resolver, and it decides which rankings it belongs in.

A privacy tool type is a short classification of what a product is for. An ad blocker removes advertising requests, a private DNS resolver looks up names inside the network instead of handing them to a public resolver, and a browser runs inside the window you browse in. The label matters because a product cannot be compared sensibly across types: AdGuard and AdGuard DNS both sit in ad blocker and private dns and private dns and ad blocker, while AdsPower and Avast are listed under browser and browser. Aura Data Broker Removal covers only the ad-blocking side, shown as ad blocker.
