What is Encryption?
In short
Encryption is the method that turns stored or transmitted data into unreadable form, and a privacy tool's details on it say whether anyone outside the product can open your data.
Encryption converts data into unreadable form so that anyone who obtains the file, or intercepts it in transit, cannot read it. The useful detail is not the word itself but the key handling around it. 2FAS keeps encryption local on the device and runs end-to-end encryption between its mobile app and browser extension, so the provider never holds a key that opens the vault. Aegis Authenticator locks its vault with authenticated encryption, derives the password with scrypt and unlocks through an Android Keystore key, while Abine, Inc. uses AES encryption at rest and in transit. Apple Inc. describes its approach as Encryption and Data Protection.
