Frequently asked questions
What does SimpleLogin cost at the start and on renewal?+
The individual plan lists a monthly price of $4 and a long-term price of $3, and pricing starts from $4. The longest commitment runs for 12. The site median monthly figure is €7.89, so both figures sit low.
Is there a free plan, and what does it include?+
A free plan is included, and its limits are a set number of aliases, unlimited bandwidth and a single mailbox, with no custom domains. Custom domains sit on the paid side. Paying for the Premium tier also unlocks PGP encryption of forwarded mail.
How private are the forwarded emails?+
Emails in transit are protected with TLS, and forwarded mail can be PGP-encrypted with your own key before it leaves the server, though that option is Premium only. Logging policy keeps no permanent IP logs, deletes older server logs and does not store emails beyond what undeliverable mail needs.
Who runs SimpleLogin and where?+
The service is owned by Proton AG, the same legal entity named in the terms, and it is headquartered in Switzerland with CH as its jurisdiction. Founded in 2020, it lists a business audience, and the code is open source.
Which platforms can I use?+
You can use Web app, Chrome extension and Firefox add on. That covers browser extensions for the major desktop browsers plus apps for phones, so aliases can be generated wherever you sign up. No licences or certifications are listed for the service.
How do I get help if something breaks?+
Support runs on email, help centre and community, so email, a help centre and a community forum are the routes. There is no phone line or live chat listed. For most alias questions the help centre and community are the first stops.
How does the price compare with other options here?+
On the monthly figure, $4 is below $3.99 for MEGA, and well above $0.99 for Apple's iCloud+ tier, which is a storage bundle. SimpleLogin also ranks low on long-term price at position 30 of 112.
Who is this a good fit for?+
It suits people who want to keep a real address private, on a budget, since a free plan exists and paid plans stay under the site median. It also suits small teams sharing aliases, given the business audience and shared mailbox features. Buyers wanting custom domains on a free plan are out of luck.
